Nico studied biotechnology at the University of Wuerzburg in Germany and majored in biotechnology, microbiology and cell biology. The title of his diploma thesis is "Importance of the adaptor (membrane fusion) protein hairpin domain for the functionality of multidrug efflux pumps".

In November 2005, he started out his Ph.D. in the Jakob lab. For his thesis he is studying the influence of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species on mitochondrial yeast proteins and yeast aging.

In his spare time, Nico likes playing soccer and ultimate frisbee. He really enjoys a nice barbecue and is interested to watch all kind of sports.
