Welcome to the Yocum Lab

PHOTOSYNTHESIS - PHOTOSYSTEM II -
PROTEIN STRUCTURE-FUNCTION - METALLOBIOCHEMISTRY

The Yocum lab applies biochemical, biophysical and molecular biological techniques to investigate the function of the oxygen-evolving complex of photosystem II. The current research initiative concentrates on understanding the role of the manganese-stabilizing protein (MSP; the 33 kDa extrinsic polypeptide) and its natively unfolded features in relation to the function of the inorganic cofactors (Manganese, Calcium, and Chloride) that activate the oxygen-evolving reaction.
